Meet Dave Laurence

Dave Laurence writes and performs “Fun Acoustic Music" - a combination of rock, pop, jazz, country, folk, and the dry humor borne of his New England roots. His unique style, energetic stage presence, and convincing delivery resonate across generations and among lovers of all music genres.
Dave began entertaining audiences in 1977, and started writing songs around the same time. "Ever since I was thirteen years old, almost every musician I became friends with was a songwriter too," says Dave. "It never occured to me to not write songs! I always thought it was just part of the job."
-
“Witty, sharp, and tuned into the moment… In a live setting, he’s a warm host.”
– Lawton (OK) Constitution

Dave started as a bassist for several bands near his hometown of Portland, Maine. He transitioned into a solo acoustic artist in 1987, performing throughout New England and beginning to craft the songs and stories that have become his hallmark.
Dave relocated to Oklahoma City in 1995, and performed throughout Oklahoma and the Midwest before taking a hiatus in 2003. He returned to the stage in 2012 and has not looked back.
Since his return, Dave has released four albums and performed from Mexico to Maine. Dave left his government job in 2022 to pursue music full time.
Following a near-fatal accident in 2025, he has decided to spend the rest of his career focused on helping to preserve the art of storytelling through song.
-
“If I was putting a band together to go back on the road, Dave Laurence would be the first person I’d call.”
- Jimmy Jack Whitaker, award-winning Gospel artist, songwriter, and producer
Dave recalls the night in 2018 that rekindled his desire to share stories through song. "I was playing a three hour, all-original show at a small venue in Oklahoma. At this point in my career, I needed to play some of my 'lesser' material to fill the time. After the show, a man came up to me and told me how deeply he was touched by one of those lesser songs - a song I had been reluctant to perform," Dave says.
"The light came on. I finally understood that nothing you write is ever really wasted, which in turn made me redouble my efforts to improve my craft. These songs can have a positive impact on people - whether they make you smile, make you think, help you through a hard time, or just make you happy. "
"I love to create songs and stories that take people outside themselves for a while, and hopefully bring them back a little better than they were."
-
"Intriguing stories, well-crafted melodies, memorable songs... World class songwriting."
- Jesse Cahn, musician, member Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame

Dave continues to write, and plans to record a new album early in 2027. He performs live frequently, and looks to bring his Fun Acoustic Music to new markets where he has not yet played.
When he is not performing, Dave enjoys mentoring and supporting younger songwriters and musicians.
2027 will mark Dave's 50th Anniversary as a professional musician. Watch for several commemorative events throughout the year!
